Sometimes we notice a problem when we can no longer endure. When any movement brings unbearable pain, and the feet swell so much that it hurts to put on shoes. And if you twisted your leg and an extensive hematoma spread around the joints? In any of these cases, it is simply necessary to contact a traumatologist at the Rudenko clinic as soon as it`s possible.
Foot and ankle anatomy

Ankle joint - the distal part of the lower leg, consists of the articular surfaces of the tibia, fibula, and talus. Movable, blocky and extremely vulnerable. The tibia and fibula surround the talus like a fork. Ligaments are located on the sides of the joint. The joint capsule is attached to the edges of the surfaces behind and on the sides.
On the outer side of the joint, the anterior and posterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments are fan-shaped. On the inside of the ankle is the deltoid ligament. On the posterior surface of the joint is the most powerful Achilles tendon in the human body - the junction of the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles.
The skeleton of the foot consists of three rows of bones:
- Tarsal
- Metatarsals
- Phalanges of fingers.
The muscles of the foot are divided into dorsal and plantar. The dorsal muscles are the short extensor of the thumb and the short extensor of the fingers.
There are three groups of plantar muscles - internal, external and middle.
Injuries and diseases of the structures of the foot
The most common foot and ankle injuries are:
- Ankle and foot injury
- Ankle sprain
- Ankle dislocation
- Ankle and foot fractures
Typical symptoms in a person will be - a sharp pain in the foot and joint, soft tissue edema, hematoma, a feeling of crunching in the joint, the inability to step on the foot.
Tendinitis, synovitis, bursitis and other similar conditions can develop post-traumatically.
Common diseases that affect the foot and ankle are:
Arthrosis / arthritis of the ankle joint
- Gout
- Rheumatic lesion
- Achilles bursitis
- Plantar fasciitis
The development of these diseases will be accompanied by reddening of the skin around the joint, swelling of the periarticular soft tissues, pain during exercises.
Urgent foot surgery
Did you get bitten by a dog, stepped on a nail, cut your leg with a grinder, a saw, or twisted your leg and got an open fracture? For all these conditions, emergency surgical care is available at the Rudenko`s Clinic for all patients in need. A staff of surgeons and traumatologists work 24\7 in the center in order to provide a full range of medical interventions without wasting precious time. In emergency cases, assistance must be provided as soon as possible, because your future life and, in particular, the functionality of the limb may depend on it.
Elective foot surgery
Our modern medical center has equipment, which makes it possible to carry out high-tech interventions not only in the format of emergency care, but also in a planned manner. Elective foot surgery includes plastic correction of congenital and acquired features of the development of the foot:
- "calcaneal" foot
- hallux valgus
- varus deformity of the foot
- flat feet
- correction of the metatarsophalangeal joints.
Depending on the initial problem in the limb and the desired result, the doctor may suggest the use of intramedullary or extraosseous metal structures. Elective surgical care can be supported by foot correction using orthoses, as in hallux valgus.
Arthroscopy and endoprosthetics of the ankle joint
In the Rudenko`s` clinic you have an opportunity for arthroscopy and ankle joint arthroplasty. Due to the complex structure of the ankle and the high demands placed on the specialist performing arthroscopy, few specialized centers have such an offer for you. And even fewer clinics perform arthroplasty for the same reason. In our medical center you can make an ankle joint arthroplasty with modern titanium metal structures.
We are focused on maximum results for our patients!
An individualized approach, many years of experience based on international practice and well-coordinated teamwork - all this is the key to our successful treatment.
We are waiting for you for a consultation with an orthopedist-traumatologist, and you can ask all additional questions at the phone number you can find in Contacts.
